hi all :)
i got prob with me stub axle i mange to get inner needle bearing out of stub and seal and replaced seal ok.now the main bit is i put bit of grease round round bearing cage to help fitting and mange to get it flush now does any one know if it goes flush or does it go down to the seal just that i got distracted with the kids at this crucial point
cheers in advance andy

for got to add it 200 tdi on a 92 :)

Get a manual with drawings.
Get this right or you may lose brakes and steering possibly at the same time.

Critical job, and you may not have enough experience yet to guess it through safely. But you will have by the time you get round to doing the other side!

If you only put a bit of grease round the cage you need to be taking it out again and packing the bearing with grease anyway. There are two different grease seals as far as I am aware. One type sits flush to the top of the hub, the other sits down by a couple of mil. You need to check rave/workshop manual.

As a long shot, the other option is to put the inner bearing and grease seal into the hub and leave it slightly proud (the seal) then put in the front bearing in and then do up the inner hub nut tight - this should seat the bearing and the seal, then undo it, take it off and give the seal a gentle tap to seat a little further, that way, the seal shouldn't drag on the back of the stub axle. Check manual is best though.

hi all :)
problem is solved found out that bearing was sitting right, flush with the edge but when i came to fit on car it would not allow cv joint to fully go throu so i could put drive member on to finsh the job, anyway as i ordered the kit from paddocks could not figure out why it was not going.so took stub axle and cv to local landy and they said i was given the wrong type of seal for inside of stub axle (one that fits deep inside of stub axle) so any how he supplied new seal for me to fit and fully greased the needle bearing aswell inisde and out to aid fitting. so now jobs a good un
sorted.so thanks again
andy
