I have a great 1984 SWB 90 pick up petrol 2.25l. The ride is not comfortable and the gear stick vibrates at high revs in all gears. (discussed in previous thread) The seats are original and a bit tired. What are my options? If i look to buy second hand seats what years and models defender are compatible. For example are the front seats from 2000 to 2012 defenders still all compatible with my vehicle? This is my preferred option.

Other options are to repair our seats or replace them like for like.

thanks

TBH, id go for one of the retrim kits, seem to be about the same price as newer seats go for, and you know they will last.
AFAIK the frame is pretty much the same, its only the foam that has changed shape a little, the retrim kits have the new shape foam.
Id like some better (read non-fender) seats for mine, but don't want to loose seat box access.

I've got some bucket seats from a Mini to put in my Defender and was wondering how to go about fixing them to the original rails. Not wanting to hijack the OP's thread here so will have a search around whilst keeping an eye on this one :)

I retrimmed both front seats a couple of weeks ago and they turned out pretty good. taking off the almost 20 year old seat foams was not pleasant tho  definitely a job for outside.

while I was at it I fitted some heated seat pads and wired them all up, the seats are fecking toasty now :D. and too hot if i use the max setting :D :Dmakes up a bit for the heater still being ****e and having to drive with the window down to clear the windscreen when it's damp

im about to put these up for sale in the accesories section...

Bolted straight into my 110.

I retrimmed my front seats this weekend, they came out rather well, I followed Exmoor Trim's video on youtube, it was most helpful. It isnt difficult if you're used to doing this sort of DIY stuff.

I did this too. Not too difficult and made a real difference. I also fitted some heated seat pads at the same time cos they were pretty cheap and i'm weak like that! :D

Been covered a few times.

On mine i used flat steel 6mm and cut strips out to make the frame to line up with orignal holes.
Then took bracket off, welded where they are ment to be then got it powder coated then re-fitted.
Easy to take seat out then to get to battery and on TD5's (ECU).

There are loads of ways to fit them it all boils down to funds and resources.

Cheers chap ... I have read quite a few posts since I got them in the summer but other than stripping the rails off the buckets I haven't got round to fitting them yet. I'll take a look tomorrow and see what the easiest option is :)

They will be far too big in a 90

I loved my rangie rear seat up front, comfy, arm rests and being 60/40 I could still access the battery.... simples

Ok I stand corrected

I never thought of using the rear seats, the folding part works well, you just can't recline them but there is not exactly much space to anyway.

Did you try front ones?

nah front ones were too big in a 90 :) lol , will admit if u r over 5'10" you'd struggle with mine, im 5'10" and they were spot on

however battery access was an issue bolting in fronts and i did like all the armrests that help avoid 'defender elbow' that the rear gave

as for reclining... selfishly it was built for me :), the last pic shows how i built a 'wedge to level the base and put the back at the angle i wanted...

only prob i had was they were rears without headrests, however i got away by bolting front headrests to the dog guard :)

Cheers steve
