Front prop shaft - help!

Took front prop shaft off to replace worn UJs. Marked it so I can put it back the way it came off....but forgot which way round it went!

Does the grease nipple for lubing the prop itself go at the axle end or the T-box end?!!!

been a while since i had my prop off,

but,

i think the holes r offset at one end..

have a look at the flage at each end and see if the spa\cing of the holes differs..
 
doesnt matter which way it goes on either flange ,its if you split it at splines that matters the relationship between the inner yoke at either end ,slide should go to axle end
 
not on front prop ,it wouldnt matter which end really ,they were fitted that way round as series with gaiter would catch crossmember as suspension moved and stayed the same since
 
interesting - all of my motors have the front prop fitted with the sliding section torwards the T box - my understanding was that there was more weight that end and therefore it was positioned so that it moved less than it would attached to the diff.

If you read Landrovers manual it states to "Refit FRONT propeller shaft so sliding joint end of shaft is fitted to transfer gearbox"

I had the same question when I got a wide angle for the front from paddocks, I was told spline to the transfer box so water didn't get trapped in the slide.
One person says one thing, the other person says something else.
 
On the Disco (from Rave) it states that (front prop) sliding end should go to T-box.

I can say it seems sensible to me, 'cos when my UJ's went on the M62 and the prop fell apart, the tube bit fell down and was dragged along the carriageway ... if it had been attached to the transfer box end it's possible it would have dug in and we'd have flipped, or at least had a ****-load more damage!
 
I guess it also depends what you call the 'sliding' end .. to me that's the solid bit with male splines on, the non-sliding bit is the tube that receives the sliding end.

there are only two ends to a prop shaft - one end has a UJ - the other end has the sliding joint.
