Hi. I have just replaced an old very knackered uj on my front prop. Two sides had no needle rollers left in. The ujs weren't fit that long ago in mileage terms which made me wonder whether or not there was undue wear. I have searched on here (and elsewhere) and read mixed opinions as to the correct direction to refit. The attached photo with arrow facing the diff, is not how it came off, but is this actually how it should be?
Thanks.

yes slide to the diff, though lr varied that on some models it doesnt matter to the props function
your prop is in phase ie both yokes are aligned, they should be out by 45 degrees as unlike the rear the diff flange and t/box flange arent parallel it can cause vibration

So just confirm. As it is in the photo with the arrow to the diff?
I didn't split the prop so assumed the phasing would be correct.
Thanks.

As said above the direction does not matter. Both of mine are fitted the opposite way around to that with the slider end against the gearbox. The important thing as jamesmartin has said is the phasing to reduce vibrations.

Okay. Thanks chaps.
I can put back together and then dismantle the Vito that broke a coil spring yesterday. Great!

I have always fitted slider gearbox end, I think land rover fitted slider diff end on the series, but mud/dirt coud be forced past the slider felt seal and shag the splines, maybe thats whay there are so many varities/opinions of what goes where.
All mine have always had the u/js in phase, not sure if vibes an issue as all mine are such noisy bits of carp, I dont know how you would tell!

I have also found new u/js do not seem to last as long as a they do on a new prop, does not seem to matter ff cheap or decent u/j.
