I was driving along the M4 last saturday when the front prop decided to break at the gearbox uj. Very noisy, very scary.
My disco has a two inch lift, big tyres, etc etc.... the props are standard.
Can anyone recommend a direct replacment for both front and rear props that will be stronger and have a greater life span. I dont want the hassel of stripping the transgfer box or axles.
Many thanks for any help.

A very good afternoon to you as well. You won't get much better than Hardy Spicer for UJs. But if it int looked after or asked to do something it wasn't designed for then it don't much matter what brand it is.

Wow .... unusual .. scary ... nasty noises!

Which bit broke?

UJ or the yoke?

CharlesY

Its hard to tell, half the UJ is left on the transferbox, half the prop is on the diff and the other half of the prop is on the hard shoulder of the M4.

hi
make sure your bushings are in good order ie radius arm mounting front and rearpanhard rod etc all these if not in good condition puts a strain on the prop shafts
they are a weak point in landrovers and usualy spoil the yoke and yj joints use quality uj parts and keep them greased more that reccomended. good luck also check gearbox seats for wear
regards jummy

Sounds like Grunt is spot on here - standard LR props will put up with a big block Chev - 480bhp,but not if they are worn out or running out of line.

wait till you had it break from the front axle at 70mph, count yourself very lucky you didnt have the brown trousers i did lol
