I have just replaced my output shaft bearing and oil seal on my 90s transfer box (original LT230) and fitted a double joint prop because the original one was goosed. The output flange had a fair amount of up and down play and also I have been getting a whine in 4th & 5th low revs and assumed this was related to the bearing. The seal is constantly leaking too. Anyway, after fitting the prop back on I tried moving the prop up and down again and the play was still there (coming from I think, inside the box) is it something that can be shimmed up with the box still in situ? Any help would be great, thanks.

unless diff worn to excess remove flange ,sea, circlip, relace nut lever out shaft with bearing ,replace bearing with new stc1130 refit with copper hammer refit circlip seal (fill inner side of seal with grease to hold garter spring in while fitting)

It must be the ''inside'' end of the shaft then, because I have replaced the output bearing (using Busters guide) thinking that was the problem in the first place but obviously not!

there will be some movement but are you sure when refitting garter spring didnt fall off it is easy for them to do if tapping in place

I don't think so, everything went back perfectly, even that fcuking circlip that was a **** to remove went in easy. The play I have now is the same as before I did the bearing, about 8mm. The shaft is pivoting on the new output bearing.

its not unkown for front housing to wear where brg sits ,shaft splkines sits in sun gear in diff housing this sun gear has a 10mm machined surface that is recessed in diff case there is some movement in this arrangement ,and with output brg been a ball brg it will allow the shaft to pivot, you will have to pull it apart again and check ,movement on diff gear and housing etc for wear
