Hi all,

I am trying to replace my VCU this weekend with not much more than two lollipop sticks and a roll of sellotape! Well, that's how it's feeling at the moment after a good workout trying to get the housing off.

Any way, it's off but can anyone tell me how to extract the front output shaft oil seal. On RAVE it says to use a flat bladed screwdriver to extract it then the remaining parts should be accessable from there. Any ideas?? Is it reusable or do I need to replace this?

I also find that I cannot extract the old VCU from the housingbut notice that there is a circlip on the exploded diagram in RAVE. Does that hold it in till it is removed? Other than that bearing etc etc seems in good nick.:scratching_chin:

Any help gratefully recieved.

Thanks JamesMartin,

I did try that would a wooden mallet but the VCU won't shift and I was afraid that I might do the bearing some damage if I go overboard. Tapping out should be the solution? Would some WD 40 on the inner face of the bearing help. Don't think the thing has been exchanged since new.

Thanks for the advice though.

Will give it a go in the am when I do part two. Never done any thing as major as this before! Apart from the scratches, the sore arms, pulled muscles between my ribs, ticked off wife because I have spent most of the day under the Rangie because it's our anniversary....it's been fun!

Quite addictive really!

yes 4 times the price for same thing

Yeah not exactly competitive pricing is it? Land rovers mark up is in the order of a **** take. £76.00 for 12 inches of brake pipe (about 20 pence worth) and two 12 pence tube nuts has to one of their more lucrative parts. If anybody was stupid enough to buy one that is. :D
