THAT circlip on the primary shaft

Trying to fit THAT circlip on the gearbox primary shaft.

I have watched SteamWally's YouTube video, and he says he uses a ring of steel lengths that fit in the grooves, held together with tape - so he can slip the circlip over and gradually move circlip over the shaft.
I don't have a set of steel pieces that would fit.
I therefore wasted 45 minutes using circlip pliers (which slip off) and screw drivers (only have 2 hands, so they slip off), and have made no progress.

Any suggestions?

Not much of a useful reply but I did it using 2 or 3 small screwdrivers and a bit of swearing, once its started on the shaft a bit of tube to knock it down into place

yup, did as you say PLUS borrowed another pair of hands. Sorted. Phew

From memory you have to take that circlip off and on a few times to set the clearances, unless you are very lucky and get it first time.
I don't remember putting it on to be the problem, it was getting it off that was difficult.

It is a swine, why a snap ring and not a proper circlip with holes? Did mine much the same as samc88 above.

it was relatively easy getting it off - but then again, I did trash it.

Again from memory it is not reusable, you need a couple so you can set up and then a new one for final assembly

If it was me, and I’ve never done it, I’d cut three narrow wedges. Pop the ring on top of the splines and open it up by tapping the wedges into the splines. Once on the splines it should tap down.

It's a swine, and crucial to the end float, I think.

I've used a half one to set end flat and then put the proper one at the end. Ensuring both the same width, of course.
