Hi, Last February had a second hand drivers side front front hub fitted by a reputable mechanic (friend), as the wheel bearing went. He rebuilt one he had and he is not a micky mouse mechanic, so everything would have been done properly. He topped up the axle filler with oil, but to make doubly sure, I added more (can't hurt)

Been stored all winter and recently moved it and have noticed a small puddle of oil under the hub since then. Is this common due to the fact that I added additional oil to it, or do I need to get it checked out. I am not sure if there is a seal inside that may have been damaged where its been sat in one position for 6 months

The truck is used for laning in the main, so I haven't driven it yet, but will be hitting salisbury plain on the 18th and want to make sure all is OK

Appreciate comments, thanks, Scott

if oil is leaking out of hub seal it means oil is leaking through stub axle into wheel hub which it shouldnt, hub seal has no garter spring and is designed to hold grease in not oil

Thanks James. Just checked with my mate and he said it should be fine, certinaly nothing terminal. He said as I use it off road in the main, they fill them up with oil so it doesn't hold the mud. On a road car you'd use one shot grease. He said to jack it up, put it on full lock and check the level. Anything else you'd suggest?

you could fit rtc3511 into hub which is oil seal instead of grease seal , which is something some do as gets lubrication to drive member splines),replace seal etc in stub axle ,watch it it may stop if over filled or seal it self with a few miles if not wetting brakes
