front fog lights not working

hi guys the front fogs dont work on our car the switch lights up but no lights i have tested the bulbs by plugging the bulbs into the main beams and bulbs are good any ideas where to look first i tried the fuse and its good also

Have they ever worked? have you checked with a meter that you have power at the connectors? They are switched in the BECM, if they have never worked they may need to be activated with diagnostics.
Hope it's not a diesel auto.

its a 1997 diesel auto why does that make a difference and i dont think they have worked while we have had it

Coz a diesel auto can't have them. There is an automatic gearbox oil cooler right where one of the lights would fit. It should have blanking plates fitted instead of fog and one of the blanking plates should have a mesh grill to let the air in.

+1 to the Nik....

But the cooler can be relocated if you are handy with spanners and can fabricate brackets and etc ....there are also reports of adding additional cooling fans to the cooler too....

It is certain your fogs are retro fitted as they were never fitted to the Diesel Autos not even as an option....

This means the BeCM isn't hooked up for them...this needs to be plugged into Diagnostics and the Option activated in the BeCM first.

Aslong as you aren't going up hills and towing caravans....ragging the ar$e end out of it and drive carefully and sensibly, you may get away without moving the cooler...but given the Auto box on the Diesel is close to its torque limit as standard...additional cooling wouldn't go amiss.....

thats strange the lights look proper and they have wires going to them that look to go into the car harness with proper plugs on the end for the bulbs also the switch panel looks rite with the front fog switch next to the rear fog switch will take some pics later when i get home

All the wiring is there as standard on all models....just not activated in the BeCM for the Diesel Autos....and they are no doubt Genuine P38 Fag Lamps....but I can assure you they were never fitted onto the Diesel Autos from the factory....

thanks is it just a case of getting it to the dealers to turn them on need to find a independent with the tool maybe they can sort my remote locking out as well

Nanocom/Faultmate will do the job if anyone is close by to you with such....or a good Indy with a decent LR Diagnostics could do it for you....not sure the Main Dealer will...unless you know them well....regretfully I know the guys in my Local Main Dealer Parts Department all to well....

I'd say you are looking at it the wrong way around. You should be thinking of taking them off to allow air in to the cooler to cool the auto box and prolong it's life. Then fit the right blanks. Then you can rest assured knowing your gearbox is being cooled and that you aren't missing anything coz no other diesel automatic has them anyway!!

i will have a look tonight make sure it has the cooler and see if its been moved over and in the airstream and go from there not really bothered about them working not needed them in the 6 months we had it just seamed a shame for them to be on but not work

Sell them either on here or on Ebay, they make good money and will more than pay for the correct blanking plates

It isn't a case of if you have a cooler. You DO have one. If the PO moved it or not is anyone's guess, but I suspect they haven't.

Fog lights are pointless on a 4x4 anyway. If they are low enough to be of any use, they won't be there long enough to be of use. My front bumper has taken a pounding for being as low as it is, nature of the beast when rocking a 4x4. I'm glad I only have cheapo blanks to replace when they go missing, rather than expensive fog lights.

He may not want to go up mountains in it. You can have fogs without any problem if you modify the bumper.

Think you totally miss the point of a Range rover.They are for driving on roads with. They are only supposed to look like you can go off road in them. I take mine off road quite often, mildly damp grass mostly and sometimes park with two wheels on the kerb.

Oh, I'm terribly sorry I must apologise. I'd totally forgotten the way I have Parker drive my RR will devalue it. It is a good thing we have sensible owners like you who ensure there are some left for future generations.
