Well my Freelander had its service yesterday and when the diff oil was drained from the front it was extreemly black and had shards of metal inside. (not a good sign i think).
It has been making a whirring sound when i drove but figured it was normal, anyway replaced oil and it sounds no different.

I now suspect i could do with a new diff, how much are these and how hard to fit?
Will it last a while driving as i am? or is it likely to seize soon whilst down some country lane in the middle of the night?

Look forward to the negative replies!:D

if its done 70k miles and this is the fust time the oil has been changed - i would expect it to be black - and as for shards of metal - you get that with wear anyway (to a greater or lesser extent).
if it is makin a funny whirring noise - i wud start savin ya pennies.
