Hi all,

Just got my l322 back from the local dealer it went in for front diff recall. I called the dealer just before Xmas and booked it in. They confirmed it was a recall and no charge would be made. So I took it in on Thursday signed the work sheet etc. Had a call at one o'clock saying the recall did not cover my vin number!!! They recommended I call LR uk, so I did. I was told the vin was fine but the recall ended 12am the night before!!!! I couldn't believe it the said it would cost £800. I stated the booking was made two weeks previous and the dealer was not aware of the end date. LR customer service said all they could do is take it to management they did and 24 hrs later the garage got authorisation from LR uk. Thank f@!k, car seems fine now but I'm looking to change the gearbox oil and filter as I'm on 74k now.

Good call.
It might be a bit late, but as I see it, the contract was between you and the dealer. They agreed to do the work under warranty. If that was incorrect, that is their problem not yours. They should have ascertained that it was a valid warranty claim before agreeing to do the work. Their mistake. You should not have needed to contact LR at all.

How can Land Rover end a vehicle recall?!?! Surely if there is a recall in place, for safety reasons, then they would have to correct it regardless. Do they just decide that because it been a few years, the dangerous fault is no longer dangerous?!?!

I think thats because they have decided that if there has been no problem for X years then any problem that occurs after that time is due to wear and tear and not due to faulty workmanship.
