Some guy rolled back into me tonight at a set of lights and busted my front bumper, the plastic part under the grille by the number plate. I guess it could be called the overrider panel

Can this part be obtained as a separate part ? or do I need a complete bumper ?

It's a Disco 2 facelift 53 plate

Thx

I have the same problem, some bastard rolled back and drove off!
The plastic area around the number plate is damaged and the mountings on the drivers side are destroyed.
I was hoping the centre piece was separate, but it isn't. As Brian says, new bumper - they aren't cheap!

Yeah I just took a cursory look on the net, even busted 2nd hand ones seem to fetch about £100-£150... The lad that rolled into me was OK, he apologised and I said no need for insurance if he pays for the repair, TBH I'm not so sure now as it looks like it could be pricey..

You may be able to get someone to remove it & plastic weld a repair if it's not too bad. As said good second hand bumpers do exist, but are rare & are many hundreds of £.

The problem with that kind of damage is that two part resin stuff like fibre glass repair kits won't stick effectively to plastic, but I'm sure that with some careful thought a method of fastening a small thin plate behind the hole using some brass (non corroding) countersunk bolts to give a back or bottom to the hole so that it can be filled, sanded and repainted. Being a plastic part, I would doubt that it's anything like load bearing and done with some care it shouldn't be too obtrusive.

After 20 odd years in the bumper industry, I can tell you that any repair will never look correct .
As that is an unpainted part of the bumper. The cost of trying to fix and make good will outcost a 2nd hand bumper.

You are looking at a replacement bumper.

Cheers

OK thanks Neilly, that's what I was thinking... it's a pain for me as it wasn't my fault and the other guy was OK, so I would just change it myself as long as he pays for the parts (seems easy enough) but it looks like finding a good 2nd hand one is not going to be easy.

That's definitely a mess !
Breakers Skan 4x4 or Equicar are not too far from you & often stock D2 parts. Although as previously mentioned, good condition sh bumpers are rare & even rarer on a car for breaking.
The "Heathy" I mentioned earlier is actually Paul McGill, based in Essex & is contactable on 01206 211623 - office or mobile 07828 278465 or 07760 955966.
He's usually very fsir on postage / courier delivery charges. PS I've got no connection to him - lol.

That's what insurance is for is it not, so get your company involved, and get a new bumper fitted, job done.

I may be wrong as I never been involved in a cash payment transaction as such, but I understand that one must inform their insurance company of an accident.
Hope you have an independent witness to the other party reversing into you, he could soon change his tune when he gets the bill for parts, I hope you don't get a letter from him claiming for damage and whiplash as it does happen

It was a young(ish) lad who was pretty polite and apologetic.. I'll give him a break. I did report it to my insurance just for the record. We also recorded the conversation afterwards of him admitting it and apologising to me. I texted him later to say as long as he pays I don't want to claim from his insurance, and he thanked me for it.. so to be honest if he tries to pull a fast one I have a bit of evidence.

Can I ask if he is paying why worry about a repair to existing as it's likley to fail later and then you will be paying.
It's up to him to open his wallet at a body shop or claim on his insurance, don't get bogged down in his problem.

I bumped a hole in front bumper myself. About 2/3 inches and recoveredtheparts.
Was repaired very well by my local garage. Colour is Zambezi silver.
If you get stuck, Kevin at Bankhead, Glenrothes can supply a 2nd hand one but quite a distance
