Hi i'm currently swapping out an old rusty front axle casing for a better rust free one, the new one is non abs and doesnt have the abs sensors (obviously) fitted to the top of the swivel housing, as i removed the abs sensors to fit in to the new axle casing it became obvious that its not just a simple swap over as they are completely different! my question is do i need to split the old swivel housings off the casing and replace the whole unit or can i swap out all the internal bearings, thrust washers etc and can this be done without taking the swivel housing off the axle tube

hope this makes sense?

thanks

Nick

I would jack the car up, take wheels and callipers off, drail axle oil, undo 7 chrome ball bolts on both sides, pull complete assemblies out of axle, stand them up on the wheel studs against the wall out of the way, remove the prop and diff from the axle, undo the 4 radius arm bolts, remove and unblock the breather pipe, pull the axle case out of the car, fit the new case back in and then assemble in reverse.

Won't take that long!

Remember to fill back up with oil and check your wheel bearings whilst you're there :)

The axle is out its currently sat on my bench in the workshop all freshly painted I'm on the rebuild of the axle and its the abs sensors that have stopped progress?

Thanks for the reply
