Hi all,

my 300 tdi defender was originally leaking oil out of the flywheel housing hole so i removed the engine and replaced the rear main oil seal and t seals. fairly straight forward job, however i now have another leak which appears to be coming from the driver's side of the engine as oil is running down the engine mounting bracket before dripping onto the floor :(

does anyone have any ideas where it could be originating from?

Thanks
Rob

Thanks, having searched some more ot would seem that the vacuum pumps are prone to failure and leaking oil. Looks like the solution is to use two gaskets when replacing. Can anyone recommended a manufacturer? Lr direct stock wabco, britpart, allmakes and bearmach.

Manufacturer for vac pumps or gaskets? Just make your own. You can buy gasket paper. If it were me, I would also put blue hylomar on each side of it before fitting. For parts I generally find Bearmach or Allmakes to be fine. I would not get Britpart.

My lift pump was leaking, due to the last person who changed the lift pump not replacing the gasket and just bunged some orange instant gasket on, it spread all over the place but seems to have dried up now, the gasket was so hard it needed chiselling off.

ive had a further look at it tonight and the metal pipe that connects to the block from the cyclone breather has oil around it so I'm now thinking this may be the issue. does anyone have the part number for the gasket that goes between the flange on the metal pipe and the block? Ive looked in the parts catalogue and i cannot find this part of the pipe or gasket anywhere!
