Will Superwinch freewheel hubs fit my Series 3 lightweight 1983. They are 24 splines I need as I have the old ones off.
Just called FamousFour and they didn't know if they were different from standard Series 3! Thought they would have known. Can't see them being any different?

at this age you really have to check them visually. my 11 came with 24 splines on the lhs and 10 on the lhs. just cos it left solihull with 10 splines or 24 splines dint mean its still has them.

Bear in mind the kingpins are splash lubricated by the front drive shaft... If you choose to use freewheel hubs make sure to turn them on periodically to get some oil up top...

Got AVMs on mine, cost me a whole day trying to get the covers off to get to me hub seals

I leave um set to 4x4 cause i got fed up with climbing in an out the cab.

And then theres all the stories of folks who forgot to turn the hubs before engaging 4WD

i had 2 firary 1s on mine but u knock them while driveing and u fook them up changed 1 to avm and am in process of changein second 1 and i do think the avm are far better if ya hit summin with the friary then they will tunr and go crunch but with the avm ones thats a lot less likely and in my opinion there are a pain in the ass when u change them but i think they do make a diffrence the handeling imporves a bit when there disengaged and they may save ya som feul coz ya aint powerin ur runnin gear with the front wheels

Cant say I can tell the difference if their engaged or not handling wise.

I do understand I'd get a few hundred yards further on a tankfull but with my fat mud tyres on its a bit academic.

Spose everyone uses their landies differently....guess I'm lucky that work takes me seriously off road half the week :D

The steering is slightly heavier on mine when they are engaged and it's a fraction slower off the lights... I think... maybe...

Having said that in the winter I leave em engaged, by the time the landie needs the front wheels on the ice I feel like Bambi trying to get to the hubs!
