I have an intermittent problem starting my TD4 S which is becoming a bit of a pain. Every couple of days it fails to start. If I wait a few minutes and try again it usually starts. Recently the failures are becoming more frequent and the length of time before it decides to start is getting longer. I have had 2 garages do a diagnostic check but both failed to find the fault. Anyone had a similar problem or can suggest a remedy ?

Thanks,

Rob

Possibly a leaking injector seal. At cranking speeds the HP fuel pump cannot deliver sufficient flow to pressurise the common rail because some is leaking back to the tank through the spill pipe. It is an easy test to determine if this is the case. There have been numerous posts on this so do a search for "injector leak test"

Fuel pump in tank possible, had same prob on 01MY and when checking the low pressure pump under bonnet it was but a dribble and gassy. Changed in tank pump and fine. When mine started to go it would be after I had driven for a while then stopped say at a garage.

Model year ?

Does the engine actually crank but not start?

If the engine in fact does crank is there any smoke from the exhaust whilst cranking?
