Hi All, I drive a 2002 freelander TD4 (87.5k) and during my drive home from work last night and I negotiated a speed bump awkwardly I was travelling about 20mph in 2nd/3rd gear and next thing I knew there was a low level grinding noise coming from under the car, the engine was still revving ok and the car was driving well so I continued. I took it easy for the next half a mile and it seemed to right itself. This morning when moving off from a cold start there was a slight rumble which dissappeared when selecting 2nd gear. Has anyone got an idea what it might be and should I get it investigated. Cheers

YES, get it investigated. You could try looking underneath first just in case there is a more obvious reason. For example, it is not unknown for the protective casing to come off the VCU and flap around on the drive shaft. However it could be a more serious problem which if you continue driving could get very expensive.

before you spend any money at a garage check your front disc brakes, a stone could be trapped between the disc and the cover or the pad may be rubbing on the disc.
