Hi
Hope someone can help. We bought an 06 plater Freelander in July with only 15k on the clock. It had been an ex mobility car and the low mileage was fantastic. However a month ago the alternator failed and was replaced under warranty. Ever sice we have had an intermittent starting problem, but only when the engine is warm! We went out in it this morning, came back for 5 mins then went to go out again and it took 7 attempts to start! This is really worrying me as a lot of the time I am on my own with my young son! I have taken it back to the garage that fitted the alternator 3 times and they say they cannot find a fault! Please can someone help? Thanks

It could be alternator related, but it sounds more like a fueling issue. Find a specialist with T4 diagnostic capability (or similar) and check for fuel related issues. It could be as simple as cleaning the fuel pressure sensor multiplug with some Wurth OL.

My TD4 had a warm restart problem..AA man called who restarted using 'easy start'.. AA advised its my lift pump and to go to main agents.. I didnt believe him coz he didnt test any thing to see if the pump was at fault.. anyway the car did restart several times after.. and testing the pumps they all seemed ok,, so saved some money there!!.. However the car failed (3) again on a warm engine.

I reported the fault here on landy zone and was advised to spend £40 on a new CAM SENSOR,, its an easy fit and cheaper than £200 worth of pump...Anyway I've now had reliable hot/warm starts for over 12months.....Good luck............

Hi,
Just like to mention, i`ve been through it all with this one.If you find the
reason for not starting when warm please get in touch.
I had exactly the same symtoms, firstly the generator went then after that
the hot start probs. The car is a TD4 2005 and ha done Km 48000.
I began with a new camshaft sensor
crankshaft sensor
railpressure sensor
pressure regulating valve
loom between rail pressure sensor and ECU
Injectors out and new
HP pump checked
wheelarch pump checked + filter renued
diagnostics read out..........nothing
new ECU...............!!!!!!!!!!
The car runs apart from this problem perfect ??
Thankful for any info, your prob.being identicle to mine.
Regards Peter
