freelander TD4 starting problem.

Hi. i have a 2001 freelander td4. it has an intermitant starting problem. it will run fine for a couple of days. Then when you try to start it fires up for about a second.then just turns over and over. leave for an hour or so and it will start first time. i took it to a garage and they put it on computer and told me that the pump in the fuel tank was knackered and charged me 180 pound to change it. however the problem is still there. the engine management light is on. and the problem happens at anytime. not just when its hot. i will be very greatful for any advise given. i live in Birmingham if someone knows a good place i can take it to.

take it back and ask them to put the old pump back as it clearly wasn't the cause of the fault. Get them to re-read the fault codes as the EML is on and see what it says.

could be bad/corroded connection on fuel pressure sensor on fuel filter head or the one on the fuel rail...
