Hi all, new to this group, but I need help with my 2002 freelander. When I go to my landrover I unlock it get in and turn the ignition on and let the glowplugs go out etc, I then turn the key to start and nothing happens at all, I would then turn the key off and keep trying then eventually it will start. It has done this several times and I need it for work. Does anyone have any knowledge on this problem and if so I would be grateful for and help. Many thanks in advance

Quite a few threads here recently about similar issues. Worth a search but could be one of several things.
Does the starter click? If so then either battery or starter solenoid.

I had a similar issue where the starter clicked and if I held the key in the start position it clicked repeatedly. It seems to be a fairly common issue where a new battery will fix it even though the old one isn't that bad. I even fitted a new solenoid kit to the starter but it was still the same.
Don't be surprised if you have to replace the battery again in another year or two.

If the battery isn't new in the last couple of years I'd replace it regardless of what your friend says. My old battery seemed fine and is still working in another car but the voltage seemed to dip just enough to cause a problem with the Freelander.

Hard to be sure. I was able to confirm my issue by using a spare battery and jump leads. The problem only happened first thing in the morning for me so I guess the voltage was dropping overnight.
There was a thread here last year where a guy had two or three cars with the same issue. If I recall correctly he said he was having to replace the battery every year and a half or so.
I guess it's worth replacing the solenoid first as it's the cheapest fix. If that doesn't work then change the battery.
