Recently bought freelander srs light is now on
cheched:

Seat belt tensioners disconected with key off removed brige pice inside connector tested resistance and both were about 2.5 ohms asume this it correct?

Tested wiring to them had not gone to earth and have not rubbed together and and no resistance bettween the 2 on either seats

removed drivers air bag and cheched connections and all seemed ok

removed cover round steering columb and cheched all connections they all seemed ok

was considering removing passenger air bag and cheching module pins is it worth doing this or do i need to take it to a garage to get fault codes erased guessing srs ligh is not self cancelling

thanks any help would be good

Not sure on the Freelander but the fault on many other cars is the sensor in the passenger seat base. Bypasses can be bought off ebay for other makes but not sure about the Freelander, just plugs into the plug under the seat.

thanks for advice but both seat belt pre tensioners give the same readings so i assume they are ok. Most other cars have a seat switch in them but dont think freelander dose

Probably best to get the codes read. Once there is a fault with airbags the light will stay on even if fixed until the codes are cleared. Will also tell you where the fault lies or the general area anyway!

Fault codes relating to the SRS system on pre 2004 TD4's will probably need to be read (and cleared) by your LR dealer or LR independent as most diesel engined vehicles were not OB2 compliant until 2004.

Mine is 55 plate so what would i need to have to clear codes. have obe 2 code reader but dose not to srs codes

The cheaper scanners usually only read and clear engine ECU faults, I bought a U581 originally, but the more expensive scanners, such as the Autel MaxiDiag, also read and clear SRS, airbags, transmission, ABS and aircon faults (I paid about £70 for the U581 and £170 for the MaxiDiag)

Have you actuley used these to clear light on freelanders harldly any of them seem to list land rover as a vehicle they can read air bag or abs codes. i have since tested the air bag resistance was 2.2 ohms as well and so was the passenger one so i guess the fault must lie in the ecu

just as a note when testing some of the wiring for the air bags have a look at the female side of the plugs there is a small spring pice in there that touches the two pins together so if you want to do any measurements you have to hold the bridge pice off the connector or you will get conttinuity all the time and wont be able to measure anything of any use

If all is ok the light will not go off unless reset by a dealer or someone with a Hawkeye - it's a safety feature - no way of switching it of otherwise even though all is ok.

Common fault is the connection under the seat gets disturbed and on comes the light.
