Hi again,
Does anyone have any experience with this app and an obd sensor thingy.
I want to setup a tablet on the dash area to show real time fuel consumption as i drive at differents speeds etc. using a bluetooth ELM 27 and Torque pro android app with the fuel consumption plug-in .
There are several settings options in the plug in on how it will calculate mpg :
Automatic
Air flow
manifold pressure
engine load
fuel rate

Im assuming that the td4 does not have a fuel sensor to measure fuel rate so my question is which of these is most likely to give an accurate reading based on the various sensors etc that exist in or on the td4 engine?

The Td4 does give a reading of pre and main injection volume per cylinder, so a combination of this and rpm could theoretically produce a fuel flow rate reading.

You're more likely to get useful functions on a post-2004 Td4, as these are more fully EOBD standarised.

The TD4 ECU, like almost all other engine ECUs will know exactly how much fuel is going into the engine as it's actually controlling it!. The TD4 has 3 fuel injection stages per cylinder cycle. The ECU knows the air flow rate via the MAF and MAP sensors. It knows the fuel pressure using the fuel pressure sensor (FPS) and it knows how much torque is needed via the throttle pedal sensor. The ECU then calculates exactly how much fuel is necessary on each of the 3 injector stages. So if your TD4 is a 53 plate or later, the Torque app does the calculations so knows the MPG with reasonable accuracy.

Thanks for that i will have another go today but i was getting innaccurate mpg last time i used fuel flow. It was showing up at 17 mpg when i know from topping up and driving and topping up again using trip computer that my mileage is between 35 and 38.5 mpg.
