Hello... just bought my first freelander but after 248 hours really wish I'd not. I'm hoping you ecperts out there can help me out. The problem I'm having is that that car starts... we have a short drive, park up, but then we come back to the car it won't start. The fuel pump is kicking in, but it just won't turn over. We left the car overnight and then it started again first time.. again, have a drive out and exactly the same has happened.... I've read a few items with similar problems, but they all appear to be old postings or on older models... Does anyone have any good advice?

injun flooding - always drive the car at least a hundred yards or so. Have the same prob on a slitty. The system hasnt had time to reset the cold start system and it pours fuel in and floods the engine.

When you say it wont turn over due you mean the starter is just clicking or does it crank over but will not fire. If its the latter then a faulty cam shaft sensor is the likely problem. It could be a leaking back injector but they normally give a problem hot or cold.

The thing is, the car was left standing for at least half an hour and won't start... surely that can't be normal???

There's no clicking, all the lights go out and it just doesn't turn over,, it just does nothing!! ....

Ok. Do you have access to a multi meter if so whilst you get someone to turn the ignition switch see if is sending a current to the starter motor, if so you will need to change/repair the starter. If nothing then it could be a faulty ignition switch. When you have the problem have you tried taking the key out and putting it back in a few times, as this may point to the switch. When you say all the lights go out do you mean that the dash is totally dead if so the switch is the most likely suspect a you should still get some lights on the dash till it fires.

Hi, I can get my hands on a m meter so can give that a whirl. On the 2nd turn of the key the only lights that reamin on onthr dash are the oil light and the battery light (that's normal yeah.. sorry I'm a bit rubbish at all this but very willing to learn)

From what you have said it looks like a faulty starter motor. You used to be able to get a repair kit that were around £15.

Brill... I'm off onto ebay now to get a Haynes manual now then.. I'll be on metro for the next few days until I can get it fixed... lol really appreicate your advice. Thank you very much. Pev :)
