just to clarify it ended up been the immobiliser ecu needed resetting, the managment system lost the codes for the keys so the car thought the incorrect key was been inserted thus shutting the engine down

hope this helps for anyone with a furute problem

Hello all, @tmonks
I keep on coming across these old threads and maybe I'm getting closer to a solution on my old freelander but its been a painful journey.

Question: How does one reset the immobiliser ecu?

Question: How does one reset the immobiliser ecu?

You might find tmonks doesn't reply, as he's not been on the forum for over a decade. ;)

As to the answer, you can't. It's programmed to the key, so you have to use a key which the immobiliser ECU recognises.

What's the problem you're having?

Hey Nodge68, I recognize you from another old thread that you helped me with.

My Freelander 2003 1.8 MEMS 3 is starting but cutting out straight away after revving to around 2,000 rpm. I have tracked it down to the injectors are being cut out and causing it the engine to die.

I have now been though stacks of forums and threads and most lead to a dead end, this is one of the first ones that provides some sort of conclusion and so I would like to figure out a way I might be able to diagnose this and maybe repair it but I can imagine we'll need some kind of specialist software.

Regards James

If it cranks over, then the immobiliser is recognising the key, so this suggests another issue.
Have you checked the fuel pump is delivering sufficient fuel pressure?
