Hi ,
I'm a newbie ... I have a freelander 1.8 petrol 05plate , recently I have had a few problems with starting it, sometimes the key felt it was not going all the way round to fire it up , but today the key is going alllthe way around, but nothing .. no clicking , just a funny noise coming from the engine .......... My friend checked the battery which is a quarter full, he wiggled the fuel solenoid and it started, I'm currently have the battery on charge ... anyone had this problem before, before I buy a new solenoid ,

Thanks
Lulu

Battery fully charged ad still nothing ... Anyone ???

If wiggling wires got it firing up then it could be just a bad connection. Try to trace the fault before throwing parts and money at it.

Is your friend a magician or a bullsh1tter?!;)

When you have a no-start, the first question is: Does it turn over (crank)? If not, you generally go down a very different path than if it turns but won’t fire.

It sounds like a no-crank, and the ignition switch is the culprit - do you drive it with a heavy bunch of keys hanging there all the time? Manipulate the key and see if you can get it to behave.

If your friend is handy with a multimeter or test light, get him to check if 12V appears at the starter spade terminal when you hold the key in crank position.

By ‘fuel solenoid’ I take it you mean the relay for the pump, but that would mean the engine would turn over but not start. Do you mean the starter relay?
