Freelander - Reconditioned or not??

I have a 2001 Freelander with the 1.8 K series engine. It has recently had a reconditioned engine fitted which supposedly has a new Cylinder Head Gasket and the new WATER PIPE LAYOUT, which apparently overcomes the overheating problems which the engine is famed for to prevent future overheating and subsequent head gasket failure. I am suspicious that a replacement engine has been fitted and not a fully reconditoned one with the modifications. Can anyone tell me or point me to images or layout drawings on the internet, if I can tell by looking in the engine compartment whether this new water pipe layout has been fitted or not, or how to tell if it has actually been reconditioned?

if it's had the thermostat mod done then it will be a plastic 3? legged housing at the back of the rad in line with your radiator hoses.
this can be fitted to any 1.8 and won't help you find out if it's recon or a straight swap.
why don't you just ask them who did the recon work and what it actually involved. post it up on here and see where you go from there.
long as you got a full warrenty for it i wouldn't be too bothered. run it till it's nearly up then blow it up and get another new un

I've got a years warranty on it (another 9 months to go) but questioned the garage why they couldn't supply me with the suppliers warranty in case they (the garage) went bust so I had some come back if any other faults developed. After going into writing and semi threatened, they told me it was bought on ebay from a reconditioning "company" mightymetro888, but no sign of that name on ebay, and they did all the other work themselves. having only had the car 6 months and bought with 70K on the clock, I would rather have paid the money for a car with recon engine rather than one which had been bought from a scrappy and perhaps had done 100k plus. Was just curious if I could find out more. Any other info would be appreciated, or does anyone know mightymetro888 on ebay (assuming spelt correctly)
