Hi, sorry if these questions have been asked before, im looking to buy a 2001 1.8 Freelander with 70k on the clock for about £2.5k.

I have been to test drive the vehicle today and there seems to be a transmission shunt as you take up the gears, is this normal or could there be a pending problem?

Also generally what else should i look out for, Im very familiar with the k-series so I know of potential problems there.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure it has both props and that the VCU is not siezed - tippex test.
Drive it on full lock, if there are clicking noises then walk away.

You can get td4s for £2500.
You can get a decent L-series for £1000 to £1500.

I wouldn't pay more than a £1000 for an old k-series, and it would need to be mint.

Infact I wouldn't buy a petrol one at all.

The petrol ones aren't worth anything in the real world coz noone wants them because of the fear of HGF. Ignore the book price.

Any useful info?

NO

Its what some gullible fool might pay.
If yu think its so good - you pay yo £2500 - dont come crying to us when it goes tits up and costs you thousands to put right.
Its your money - but no-one on here would pay half that. You asked and you have got sensible replies - if yu dont like it - good luck.

In LRO it says somewhere that a petrol with a duff transmission and a failed headgasket went for £260 on e-bay. By your own admission the transmission seems abit suspect, so in a few months and a possible HGF your £2500 car could be worth considerably less.

Don't get me wrong I like freelanders, just please make sure you get a diesel if you want one.
