They are not programmed for this as standard but I understand that a dealer can enable this feature via testbook (dealer diagnostic software)

hiya

drive away locking do you mean that when you get in the car start it up the doors automatically lock

sorry to ask such a daft question

gary

Mine was delivered (30th July 2011) with drive away locking functioning from the start. I've had it on a MINI before and it's brilliant.

Why is it brilliant? I've been driving for over 30 years and have never wished that the doors would lock themselves or felt the need to lock them myself while I am driving.

I have it in my van and it's great, yes drive away locking, very good so car jackings can't occur. Also for my van anyway I have to unlock back doors so no kit can be nicked at lights etc which occurs with pikeys around

I don't trust it either. I press the internal central door locking switch if I want the doors locked while I'm in mine.

You and I have been driving for about the same length of time then ;)

As cars have become virtually extremely difficult to steal without the keys, the criminals now choose to acquire the keys instead. So it's only a relatively recent thing that they will either break into your house to get them or break into your car while you're still in it! The other current thief's favourite is to walk through stationery traffic and open a boot, or door and remove anything of value and then run off with it. I usually have a laptop with me in the car when I'm at work.

So this is helpful protection against current car crime.

If your going down the land rover stealer.. Oops, i mean dealer  to get it done, you can ask them to deactivate the single point of entry feature too.. Then all your doors and boot will unlock on one press of the button, rather than pressing it twice...

Everyones different, but gotta say i agree with hippo... Why not just press the button to lock everything when you get in?? Save yourself a trip and some money!! Besides, if you have the feature armed, then you are unlucky enought o be in a collision, you and your passengers are stuck in a locked car.... I know its a bit OTT, but if you were unable to let yourself out, other people who are trying to help you cant get in!!

My neighbour has a 59 plate Scenic.. Now i know its french and held together with chewing gum, but he had a problem with his drive off locking..

In a nutshell, it armed and when he went to get out at the petrol station, none of the doors would open.. For some reason, the frog car also activated the deadlocks as well, so he had to drive to the dealership (on fumes) and beep the horn to attract the renault mechanics attention

Stuck in the car for 20 mins when renault sorted it!!

Anyhow, whatever you choose to do, keep us all posted

The g meter which activates the air bags also releases locks I believed but your friends story sounds funny but distressing for them

Is there the option for the alarm to bleep on locking?

You can switch off: the volumetrics (alarm internal sensing), alarm itself, one shot drivers window drop, one shot tailgate window drop, put it into transit mode (as per supplied from factory to dealers), harards on alarm, double locking, warn of mislock (door not shut), hazards on arm/disarm, passive imobilisation, self test. Turn on over speed warning, seat belt lamp check, headlamp power wash, wiper program option.

But why you would ever want to change any of the above is beyond me. Would make yer Freelander non standard, un cause you trouble wiv yer insruance.

Note: the above list is from the Hawkeye v5 menu and I haven't tested any of it, so it erm how can I put this... taps fingers... thinks to ones self... may not work or may not even be an option.
