I have seen a Freelander 2.0 TD4 Auto ES on a Y plate (2001 )

Nice condition 56K

Asking £10995 but offered it at £10500

Anyone know what the Glasses Guide price is ?

Also seen an advert for a 03 Kalahari Auto TD4 49K at £10995.

Is it a good buy ?

What should I be looking for ?

What are the bad points

My view, no. It's out of warranty so you may as well buy a bigger, better
car for the same money. The older the car, the cheaper the bits! good job as
you'll need more of them.

A real Land Rover if you want one & i dont mean that in a snobbly silly boy
sense. Freelanders are bloody ****e at the best of times. BIL had one that
cost him a fortune. I nearly bought one. Glad i didnt.

Same as any cars but with some extra features, IRD will die, folk think
you're a tosser, men know you're a tosser! Rubbish finish with the worst
seats i have ever sat in doesnt do any favours. The 1.8 engines are crap &
will die. The V6 is thirsty beyond its size etc. the td4 is good i believe,
buit, really, whats the point of it? buy a D2 or RR P38.

I have a very late 01 TD4 manual. Covered 74k and apart from annual service
has only needed parts you would expect to change (eg brake pads etc). The
TD4 is a BMW unit and very economical ..... it does deliver 36mpg . An added
bonus Imo is no cam 'belt' the unit is driven by 'chain'. I use the TD4 to
tow also, about 1.3ton, and it handles that very well, the torque range is
excellent. The build quality by 01 was much improved and I understand about
70% of parts had been changed over by then. Imo though it is the only
Freelander to consider. I wouldn't touch 1.8 or 2.5 petrol models.

Don't know what the premium is for an auto but around here if it was a
manual on a Y plate I would expect it to be under £10k.

Know nought about the other car you mention.

Right now the Freelander TD4 is probably a major cog in keeping Land Rover
afloat.

Hello
I've got a Freelander ES Td4 Auto 2002, bought it from the Main Dealer when
6months old, had it 3.5 years.
No problems apart from requiring new front brake pads at 18,000 miles, and
my last service at 25,000, they were 50% worn. That's terrible since I don't
drive 'hard'.
I think they are too small for the vehicle.
I have no other problems with it, it runs very smooth and the engine and
gearbox are very nice.
In fact I've had 4- Disco's, Tdi 300's and Td5, loads of problems all the
time in and out of the garages, in fact we got to know the staff like part
of the family.
This is the best Land Rover I have owned, maybe a bit small, and I would
love a larger one, but can't risk another Disco until they climb the charts.
Being an Auto I only average about 30mpg, but thats good since the roads
near me are congested.

I used to have a 51 plate Td4. Itook it back to the dealers 47 times in ten
months!!!!
It was the the most badly built, unreliable piece of automotive junk I have
ever had the displeasure to own. The fact that the dealership were very
unsympathetic, snobbish and uncaring didn't help quell my feelings towards
the car.
After much fuss and letter writing to Ford, Land Rover and other people I
eventually got back a fair settlement. I wouldn't mind so much, but after
owning the car for a couple of weeks, I offered to swap it for a D2 and pay
an extra £9K for the privelige. The dealership offered me £3K less for the
Freelander than I had paid a few weeks previous!!!!!

Stew.

There are 50 reviews of the Freelander here some excellent and some very
poor. It seems if you get a bad one it is very bad.

Anyway here are those reviews for;
