Im used to quite quick cars normally, so when I got my TD4 it was a bit of a shock to the system. So after a bit of research I gave the old girl a full engine service good job too as the crank case breather filter was clogged up with crap.
I then fitted an EGR block off followed by a CR2 common rail tuning box which I run on setting No5 as No9 was a bit too mental but the best improvement was putting 2stroke oil in the diesel (mineral not synthetic and the cheaper the better) mixed at a ratio of 200 to 1 eg. 20lts fuel to 100ml 2 stroke, big difference within 10-15 miles .just had MOT done and the guy said he hadn't seen such good emissions. Now she's good for 115 mph+ and got plenty of mid range grunt. Never thought i'd get this excited over an oil burner.

Hi,

Glad to hear yet another person has discovered that diesel does not mean slow and smelly. (Mr J Clarkson, take note)

I too have always had performance orientated vehicles - a Ford Escort Mexico Mk 1 back in my rallying days, and a BMW 528i which when it was new was the fastest production 4 door on the European market.;)

Upgrading the TD4 has completely changed it - I actually prefer it on long journeys across Europe to any other vehicle I've had. :D

The MOT smoke machine gets no readings! - 3 attempts on the meter and the message comes up each time 'check the sensor has been inserted in the exhaust correctly' - the tester has to manually enter that it's a pass.

Way to go - M47R rules. :D

Singvogel.

The td4 does respond well to tuning, mine has been remapped and has a K&N filter added.

Just mind to run good quality oil and filters in it. I picked up a 72k service kit, from a LR main dealer for £96 inc delivery. Oil, air, fuel, crank, pollon and a new battery for the remote.

Mine also had no smoke for a mot, but the last one showed smoke and such again..
There was no change in the engine from this mot to last one yet the results were worse this time..

Shall need to get the better maf i recon.
