freelander or defender

simply, the private road in has had so much abuse by us woodland lot, that the freebie is bottoming out on the middle section, in made sense to tow the caravan along that in the defender, then it was easier to take the defender in, rather than swap it back over again, plus of course the winch made our minds up, had we towed it with the freebie and got stuck, it would have been worst

Get a lift kit...instant extra ground clearance

Buy a fergie.

Seriously though, our Freelander TD4 had gripped well in clay and mud, which we have at ours, even with 2 tons of horse trailer hooked up. Pulled us out of the Norfolk show one year with nearly everything else spinning up.
Considering the flack they get the buggers will grip.

how's that? surely unless you put bigger wheels on, the axles will be at the same height?

Freelander's don't have axles, they're independently suspended...a lift kit lifts the body, and all the drivetrain is bolted to the body, coupled with bigger tyres you can raise the body by 3" as I have on mine...

I have more ground clearance than a standard Defender has to its axles, and Defenders are always limited by axle clearance

lift kit is £140 from moi, £190 with Bearmach camber pins which I can also supply

tyres are dependent on what you want to fit, i've got Cooper Discoverer AT3's in 225/75 but they won't fit without spacers/modulars, I can supply them too lol

I've got camber bolts just need a lift kit simon;)

Picking up the material wednesday, putting together from then on, hoping to be ready end of next week depending on the workload of the platers, soon as your kit is ready i'll get it sent off

Great stuff just finished my roof bar just got to wire it up now hope your well? freelanders are a great all rounder stick with it!!

You made your light bar? I need to find some brackets to use on the channels at the front!
I'm great thanks mate, even better when I get all this stock sold

Yeah just fitted it! Used the rail bolts just have to take about 5 mm out of the covers so they sit back on the rail and wire it up I'll sort some pics out if I can but you know how crap I am at that look what happend when I had to put up pics on the back box removal lol !!!!!! You'll have to give me your email just in case !!

Ah you've got a 5dr haven't you, I need to make one for the 3dr as there's no standard mounting points

Magnetic bases? The roof bars on yours sit quite far back on the truck don't they? If so I can see where the problem is:scratching_chin:

And always watch everything when winching.......

One of my fingers is a bit shorter than it should be due to not paying enough attention to what I was doing with a winch cable..:censored: I was very lucky not to lose it altogether....

:focus:

The hippo should do better with TC than the debender does on sloppy slippy slidey mud even with diff locks

never mind a finger if you step over a winch cable while being used you will loose the crown jewels

There's 2 blank covers above the windscreen in front of the sunroofs, need to find a way of using clamps on the seam under them to fit a light bar, i'll work it out eventually

after just returning from a 2 day round trip to yorkshire and covering over 500 miles, my freebie has developed a new noise that I want to get check out first, but if that dont cost too much, Im deffo interested in your lift kit, and chance of a side on picture of yours so I can get an idea what it could look like, would probably only want the 50mm lift if that means not having to extend other bits, am thinking now, maybe better to just spend a few £££'s on this, rather than opting for a defender?

As said, with my lift kit and bigger tyres I have more ground clearance than a std defender, and its a lot more comfy too!

I'll pop outside and get a side on pic of my car as it looks

Bear in mind my tyres give me a 34mm lift too, so I actually have more arch gap than standard, even though the tyres look huge in the arches
