Does anyone know what length a dipstick for mk1 should be, i think the one i bought as a replacement is too short, i got it from a local parts shop to replace the existing one as the yellow plastic end was missing and i didn't compare the two before binning the old one.

I looked at the britcar parts link and it says it's 1cm x 7cm x 64cm, i've just measured my dipstick the length of metal stick as it comes out of the yellow handle moulding is 44cm and the yellow handle is 10.5cm so overall 54.5cm.

Are the britcar parts measurments correct as it seems a very long dipstick, i may have over filled my oil level.

Thanks for the size, so i have the right dipstick, the freelander came with quite a few problems that i'm getting sorted, i get one thing done and another crops up.

If you don't mind me asking what was wrong with yours, i didn't do any research before buying, i've learnt since the faults seem to be common on the freelander, head gasket had to be replaced and some kind of joint on the prop shaft had to be replaced, not sure what it's called a metal disc seperated from a rubber and started banging against the floor.
I don't think the engine is 100% as i have to keep topping the oil up about once a month and i can't see any leaks, i'm using 10w 40 semi synthetic oil, what is the reccomended oil for the mk1 freelander.
The engine light came on yesterday so i've changed the 2 spark plug leads today, i got them from eurocar parts, there slightly longer than the originals and the neck collar on the lead does not fit securely in the top of the entry hole like ones i've taken off but the engine lights gone out so fingers crossed it's done the job.
Nearly forgot the window cable broke before xmas, got that finished the other day, hope nothing else happens, touch wood.
