Hi,

Just need a bit of advice! My Dad has a Freelander Lux HSE TD4 (I think it's a 2.2L), it is a 2013 plate with FSH and 30,000 miles on the clock.

Long story short, it broke down whilst driving with many warning lights on and I think it went into some kind of limp mode. It turns out that the turbo has gone and is looking at a £1700+ bill to repair.

Do you think there is any possibility of Land Rover repairing as a good will gesture as being as it is only 4 years old with 30k on the clock?

I think he is the second owner of the vehicle.

Thanks,

Peter

I'd be very surprised if the turbo has failed after just 30K miles. How was turbo failure diagnosed.

Ring LR customer services and ask. ;)

Given the fact that most F2 faults turn out to be something completely different to first diagnosed, and usually something very cheap and innocuous that's sending spurious messages around the car's electronics fooling it into thinking its something else - I would definitely not just go by a first diagnosis on something this big. I'd want to know exactly why they say its is the turbo as well. It sounds like a mechanics cop out because its a high value item and therefore they'll have a lot of cash from you to pay for other cheap bits when the turbo is found not to be the problem - the bill of course will just say that they replaced the turbo.

As Nodge says, ring LR customer service. When they say no - you then have to decide how many times you are going to call them and what you'll settle at. After 4 calls, you may get an offer of 25% of the cost from them, after 6 calls and 2 letters, you may get 50%. You may of course never get anything. That appears to be the modus operandi of LR customer service in these matters.

I don't know the F2, but how many warning lights would a turbo fault throw? The MIL yes but what others? If lots of lights are being lit - it sounds like an electrical fault.

On my D3. When the turbo control solenoid was sticking, I got 1 MIL and the screen displayed something like "Malfunction Reduced Power".
