Hello,

My L Series Freelander (1998) has just developed a problem today. When i start it up the engine revs up higher than normal for a few seconds then goes back to normal idle and the engine light comes on and stays on. I have read the fault codes and i get "25 - Fuel cut off; value not plausible".

What could be causing this problem?.

Thanks,

I read on another thread that it could be the coolant sensor.

Where abouts on the engine is this located?.

I might just change it because it's cheap and see if it fixes it.

I'm not saying that isn't the correct code - but I doubt it. I don't think the Delphi tool talks to the old L Series. There are plenty of devices that say they cover Freelander - but only a few do properly and only a couple on the L Series.

The coolant sensor is on the top of the coolant elbow on the front of the engine. There's also another temp sensor there which is just used for the temp gauge on the dash which is on the front of the elbow.

I'd recommend you download the Rave workshop manual, its invaluable!

In the "Workshop Manual" - "Cooling System - 'L' Series" section there's a diagram showing its location.

Yeah it probably is the wrong code because i had to choose a different model for it to read the codes.
I've ordered a coolant sensor but if there are two I don't know if I have the correct one. But I'll look at that manual and see if it is when it arrives.

The Icarsoft I 930 doesn't read the L series EDC. It does read the ABS ECU though.

I've just changed the coolant sensor and the problem has now been fixed.

Thank you GrumpyGel for the link to that manual it was very useful.
