:blabla: hello everyone,ive got a 1.8 petrol k series. its done 118000 miles on one head gasket and gets looked after very well. just started to get high emissions and has developed a small engine oil leak, also a compression test read :- no 1 - 160, no 2 - 120, no 3 - 150 and no 4 - 180 is all this related ? the engine appears to running ok with no signs of hgf and i was thinking fix the oil leak slap on a new head gasket just to be safe and see what happens. the other thing to do would be to replace the engine but with what ? the rest of car is solid.
any suggestions pls ?:confused::monitor_punch:

Does it use a lot of oil? if not then try another compression test but this time put a spoonful of oil in each spark plug bore first and see if the readings rise substantially - this would indicate worn bores or damaged piston ring. if compression does not rise much then its likely to be a worn valve oil seal or HGF maybe - perhaps a slight compression leak past the fire ring on the gasket into an oil way putting extra crankcase pressure and causing a seal to fail.

High emissions could also be a faulty CO2 sensor or cat. A well looked after K can do high miles, the VVC unit in my old MGF had done 116k and was still sweet with low fuel consumption.
