Freelander, it wont start!

Hi, 2000 Freelander TD4 S Auto.
Friday my Freelander started at my house without any problem. Drove to town and went shopping but when we came back to it after shopping I turned the key and it wouldn"t start. Turned the key again and it started so drove home.
Today, Sunday 7th Nov tried to start it and it just will not start. Now I have a warning light on:Engine Malfunction Indicator.
Anyone have any idea of what"s wrong?
Recently I let the fuel tank run very low. Could it be a blocked Fuel Filter?
It did start eventually, but only ran for a few seconds before cutting out again and will not now restart.
Any help or advice would be appreciated

sounds exactly like what happened to me. sounds like faulty injector causing leak back.

if you do a search, there has been quite a bit written about this.
