Hi Everyone, Dosair here and I have just joined.
I have a real problem with my Freelander that needs sorting out asap!
My wife uses the Freelander all the time and it is great but recently it has been virtually impossible to reactivate the immobiliser when returning to the car. She does have a habit of not locking it with the remote handset and I understand this can cause problems when you try to start the vehicle when you return to it as the alarm system gets confused.
So what I would like to find out is how to totally deactivate the immobiliser altogether and just have the central locking remaining. She has been stranded a few times now when the vehicle wouldn't start. This is becoming a pain when you have 2 kids.
Regards,
Dosair.

Welcome to the forum.

You are better off asking in the freelander section.

It can be done but will effect your insurance. Before you go disconnecting the alarm have you tried changing the fob batteries? have you tried using the spare key?

Thanks for the quick reply Ratty.
The batteries in the fob seem to be ok, they unlock the car etc. and you can see the indicators flash, and the cars unlocks, but it does not always reactivate the immobiliser and when you turn the key nothing happens!

This is gonna sound like a really stupid question but does your missus have a big set of keys or bulky key ring?

which freelander is it ? engine type / size, year, model...

I believe...

early ones had to be unlocked by the remote as part of the immobilser, similar to rover cars of that age, for the engine to start. later ones have the chip in the key system, and then it doesn't matter how it is opened, it will always start with the key.

if it's a later one, rats is bob on with possible interference from other keys on the bunch. try starting with just the key on its own, not on a ring or in a bunch.
