freelander help

hi i wish to change my petrol engine 1.8 which is always giving me problems and stick a diesal lump in , is this a straight forward job ie will my gearbox fit straight on a tdi and what else would i have to change and which diesal engine should i go for , regards to all graham

buy a smashed early diesel freelander and swap the bits, howardo our gaylander ambassador will know more or a 220 tomcat or rover vitesse turbo lump would be more fun

Not straightforward enough to be worth doing, best advice i can give is to sell it and buy a diesel

that would be willo or chromiumuk.

as chaser and MHM say, best to sell it and buy a diesel, probably an older l-series.

Yep, the guys are right. One of the other guys on here had actually bought a cheap rolled Td4 with good mechanicals cheaply & was looking into buying a cheap 1.8 with good body & blown engine to do the swap. I can't remember all the details but I'm sure it involved a complete swap of practically the entire wiring harness as so much was different. He said he was going to give up on the idea because there was too much involved. Can't remember his name but it might have been bandit something. Well worth trying a search on though.
