Freelander Help

Hi i could cry....bought Freelander 2.0 td4 automatic 2003 model yesterday 39000 miles on clock drove it home 70 miles fuel tank showed 1/4 full (first problem) it ran out of diesel faulty display, i get to a garage thanks to the AA fill it up now the engine fault light keeps flickering on and off in idle i have to keep my foot on accelerator to stop it cutting out the revs keep surging up and down then it dies some times it will start other times it just turns over and over and when i do try and move it it sounds dodgy like its misfiring. any suggestions greatly appreciated as the garage is shut till monday and i really need my car.

sounds very much like the tank fuel pump is not working properly.

or some rubbish has been pulled from the tank up into the fuel lines.

sounds like a fuel system strip and clean could be in order.
or call in the aa to fix it and send both bills to the garage!

Hi Mat. . .un welcome sorry to hear bout yer problems, got the same model as you soo first change ya fuel filter go into search and you will find info on how to do it, if that does not help, then its very possible ya rear pump is playing up, pump mesh filter and fuel level sensor are a all in one unit , best to change for a new one if suspect, after doing any work on the td4 fuel system, jist stick yer foot to the floor un crank till it starts [self priming]. . . .un best oh luck, un dont be put off the auto is a great motor an the rear pump is a known weak point. . . .

Thats a man wiv big b*llocks or deep pockets. Either that or he's got integrity. He needs framing, you don't get em like that nowadays....
