Another problem:mad: .....my clutch is slipping in 3,4, 5 th gear. Anyone know how much this is gonna cost cos its way outta my mechanical expertise! Some garages say it may need a new flywheel too but wont know until they take it apart.....quotes £400+ vat for clutch and £300 for flywheel.
Is this reasonable?

03 td4 86k.........and practically rebuilt i the last 12 months! I feel sick over this god darn diddly dang heap o turd....

Recently had a new clutch for our 1998 L-series.

Clutch kit is £138
Cylinder is £46

6 hours labour was £400.

To be honest, the Freelander clutch is a bugger of a job, so we left it to the main dealer. It's made especially worse on the Camel because all the underbody protection has to come off too!

I recently bought a heavy duty clutch plate it was only about £15 more than the original.

Still have to fit it, wont be till next weekend, hippo is still driveable but starts to get sticky in the gear changes.

Will take some pics, gonna drop engine rather than spilt gearbox and drive shaft etc

£150 for clutch kit

Flywheel is only replaced if badly scored, missing teeth etc

Total bill £817.17 for clutch, flywheel, cylinder and labour VAT. I love my freelander......its great.

Should it stay or go I wonder.....? What else could possibly break...?

1.Crap (and expensive) dealer service. Failed to complete service to specs and failed to tell me my undertray had DISAPPEARED after 3 visits to the dealer in a week (one for service, twice for repair)
2.Car cannot go through PUDDLES without losing turbo power to engine. Dealer tells me ive been WADING too deep??!! Turbo variable nozzle jams and clogs up turbo filter or so im told. This has happened 3 times. (Great off road capabilities..LR insist im wading too deep...erm, ok whatever...)
3.Fuel pump packed up.
4.Power steering pump packed up.
5.Wiper linkage wore out and failed.
6.Radiator leaks, Radweld in at the mo (LR £450 quote)
7.Clutch buggered
8.Door speakers both replaced due to water running down inside of door.
9.Turbo lag-turbo boots up and then drops before any power to engine.

Should it stay or go I wonder.....? What else could possibly break...?

Good question ...

Good answer.

That said, it sounds like you have a bit of a lemon. If it is costing you a fortune and you feel that it is a bottomless pit, then you nee to move it on before you throw good money after bad.

We maintain our Land Rovers well, and spend lots of money on them when required. But we do this in the knowledge that they give us years of faultless service as a result.
