Freelander handbrake light

Hi does anyone have any ideas why
My freelander 1 handbrake light won't go off? I've topped up with brake fluid handbrake works fine
Just don't no what else to try I usually run pajero s so not up on
Landrover freelander faults
Any help would be great

Brake pads worn thin? Some have wear sensors

Hand brake switch, near the base of the hand brake lever.

Are the wear sensors connected to the pads or the calipers
Think I will start there before pulling the centre console out

well just thought i would update on my handbrake light problem
so got advice from, freelance,and tony reeves thanks guys much appreciated
so i remove wheels (front) checked pads inner pads were very warn changed all four
tidied up greased pistons ect ect still no joy light still on
had centre console out brake switch seems to work fine but light still on
so gave up on that job
moving on to oil and water check as you do
and there it was !!!
for some strange unknown reason the driver side abs sensor was disconnected
beats me
as only place its been is for mot and passed so im thinking garage done it must be skint and trying it on for more work me thinks
as my father always told me never trust anyone !!!!

Not boring at all, and thanks for the update it is much appreciated and sure to help someone else.

Once again handbrake warning light is at it again it comes on at 10mph any idea's anybody ?
