I have a problem with my hand brake light stating on all the time, I have pressed switch under hand brake and did nothing. I also have the 3 amegos is the hand brake light problem related to the 3 amegos or is the switch broke under handbrake or something else that I have missed??

Iff'y (hand)brake lights, three amigo's! - sounds like another brake light switch????
Search 'three amigo's' and check out the vintage and type of brake switch you have - could be a simple fix.
But Iff'y handbrake light - you may have just discovered a new 'amigo's' twist there?
Could be just a duff switch tho' - does the light go off when you unplug the switch - simples? :)
Post back what you find.

I thought the brake sensor was on brake pedal???? My cart doesnt have a problem with the brake lights on the back, it is the handbrake warning light on the dash the brake sensor wouldnt affect this would it????

Probably an abs sensor or reluctor ring. I'm on the fifth repair in 4 years, about right for a Freelander. Another thing to check is the brake fluid sensor. The white thing plugged into the reservoir, I've had one of them break too.

Thanks everyone weather was really pish today so will have a look at some of these things and let you know.

Am I right in saying this??

I also no that I have 2 broken sensers one back drivers and front passenger which will be why I have the 3 amegos but does this also put the handbrake light on the dash??

It's not solely a handbrake light it's a brake warning light. If it stays on with correct fluid level and handbrake released there is a brake system fault. It's very likely the faulty abs sensors are causing it.
Re the brake light switch, you don't give age and model, pre 2002my switches won't cause 3 amigos. Post 2002my switches can be faulty and brake lights still work.

its a 2001

not anything to do with brake light switch then. start by fixing abs sensors.......

right looked at car today and the update is,

unpluged switch under handbrake lever and light stayed on

checked brake fluid and is fine

So im going for the 3 amegos are causing the problem. Need to save up the pennies for them, there £60ish each arent they??? still cant get old ones out yet think it will be a drill job

Once you've done one its the same for them all. The plastic head breaks off leaving the body in the metal sleeve. Drill out the innards taking care not to go too far, hammer a small narrow punch between the casing and the hub, squirt with thread freeze or other penetrant, wiggle, hammer, squirt, etc etc and it will come out. Allow a couple of hours for one and see how you get on. At least if you don't get it finished in one go you can stick the wheel back on and use the car.

The other method is to remove the hub and tap it from the inside but then you have to do it in one go.

I got them off ebay for £40 each inc p/p and they are genuine Wabco. Fitting is easy once you've cleaned the hole but make sure you get the clearance right otherwise you'll wear the face off and the lights will come on again. Check the reluctor rings aren't broken or spinning on the hub otherwise they'll need done too.

thanks hippolover this job will be added to the rest lol almost got the hippo on the road hope this week with the 3 amegos and no elec front windows. thats me at £1050 all in so £900 to go and I then start spending more than she is worth thats if I had £900 to start with.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ... so we have had lots of rain and the 3 amigo ABS lights then 1 hour later the brake warning light lit up like a christmas tree this morning.

I plan to start with the ABS sensors as the parking break switch has no effect and fluid is good.

Will OBD2 diagnostic kits pick up these faults?

I'd be checking the brake fluid level or the level switch connection if the HB light is on ;)
And no OBD2 won't show anything other than emissions related engine problems.

Fluid level on max, I have taken handbrake cover off and checked switch which doesnt turn the HB light off.

Got a friend coming round tomorrow with a diagnostics kit to give me the codes so im hoping its a sensor.....
