Hi all
I am buying the wife an 06 Freestyle auto with 16500 miles on the clock. 1 owner, (company car) and serviced 2500 miles ago, although having stood
( garaged ) for a while, hence low miles. I am not sure when the service was carried out, as the service log book has disappeared and a new one is being aquired from Guy Salmon Landrover, from where the car was bought and has been serviced. My reason for this thread is asking you all for advice on what to do driving and service wise when we pick the car up on Tuesday. I am not sure how long the car has been stood, so should I give the car a fresh service, and drive it gently for the first couple of thousand or so miles, or just get on with it and drive it as I would any other car. Might seem a daft question, but first time we have bought a car with this low miles and an auto, and being the owner has not driven the car for some time( he is now in a home after having been in hospital for some time) I am a tad unsure how to best proceed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ( apart from "buy something else" as the wife loves her Freelanders, we are selling a `52 3 door td4 to get this one)
Many thanks in advance

Certainly worth getting a full service including oil and filters change and the crankcase breather filter. Check condition of the front brake discs if its been sitting a while. Not sure of oil change intervals for the auto box. Check also that rear drum brakes are not stuck on or rubbing.

Oil change on the auto is every 60k miles. I choose to do mine more often.

Would have thought not much would be wrong with a 16500 miles 5 year old motor. My October 55 Freestyle has covered over 105,000 miles and only service and general wear and tear items have been required.

16k miles, the car has barely lost its virginity.

I'd say drive is tentatively until you get the brakes cleaned up and they start working efficiently again.

Although if you look at it age wise, its due for a 60k service :)

Mine was about 3 years old wiv 2200 miles on it when I got it. Was sat still for just over a year before and after the 2200 miles. I had a 36k service done to bring everything up to date. If anything I would have eggspected it to be a good idea to change all liquids. Or get a fair sized service done. Look after it now and drive wiv the confidence yer hippo is happy.

Thankyou ever so much everybody, great advice. I will check when the service was done and otherwise gently break it in again.
Thanks again

Hope you checked out the road tax on that as the last Td4 autos came in around the £430 mark per year (might have gone up from that). Apart from that it sounds a very nice car. Agree with the others about giving it a service & checking out the brakes.

My wife suffers with her knee`s ( don`t ask ) ) and we wanted an automatic as obviously the clutch is heavier in a 4x4 than a normal car. I did`nt want to pay the £445 roadtax for an automatic and this was the only one I came across which is the normal £260. Don`t ask me why, it is only 2 I`ve found which comes in at that roadtax price.

One reason I chose a late 55 Auto, still £260.

Check rear drive shafts are not noisy. just sterr hard left then hard right youll hear them if there is a problem.
Watch for Handbrake sticking on.
My freelander had stood for over 12 months and had these issues.
