Here we go again. Us Freelander owners were happily discussing our eggsause problems and you have to interrupt wiff yer silly comments. For the record:

The first pic was put up to show the eggsause pipes under me Freelander. Mines the v6. Each model is a bit different in the eggsause department. Yes my Freelander did drive up the wooden blocks on its own. I have wooden ramps to help. They're cheap, safe, reliable and strong enough to do the job of supporting my Freelander whilst I work under it. I posted the pic as I thought it would be of interest to other Freelander owners.

The second pic was posted to show the beer barrel (eggsauce back box section) so others could see just how big it is, and how low it hangs. Posted as I thought this would be of interest to other Freelander owners too. My eggsauce has had a number of dents put in it, whilst off road. This is the only suitable pic of my Freelanders eggsause, I have, to show as part of this thread.

I would also like to take you up on your kind offer of correction:

Axle articulation isnt the bestist thing when off roading. I would agree keeping all 4 wheel on the ground gives betterer traction. Hence why independent suspension is so fantastic on a Freelander. Where the Freelander excels as an off roader is the fact that it's light, nimble and equipped (most of em) with an amazing traction control setup. Hence I only need one wheel with grip, to drive forwards. Hence axle articulation isn't that important, as I will demonstrate. When cross axled as on the above pic, traction control stops spinning wheels from spinning, thus delivering power to the wheels which have grip. Hence my Freelander was able to drive over the axle twister, without all 4 wheels on the ground, at the same time. The tratter option is to supply power to the wheels with the least grip, when cross axled. The centre diff when locked allows the same thing to happen. In lay mans terms, **** all help. The above pic was taken at a well known LR shows off road course. Owners could put their vehicles and their driving skills to the test. Proof mine went over the axle twister can be shown in many of the photo's I've already posted. Some however, struggled. Here's the video as proof my Freelander went over the axle twister ok:

Freelanders are good off roaders!!.. its just that they keep braking down! like all landrovers!! yours included

the 'Biscuit Tin brigade' aren't happy unless you show pics of your mig welder (and welding achievements), your Landie on a crazy angle with ALL 4 wheels on the ground (supported by ohhhh's and ahhhh's), and lots n lots n lots of MUD! (especially with the wheels sunk into a bog)

They love that stuff!

..........oh and bagging Freelanders!!!:cool: (in between welding bits on their buscuit tins)

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mines never broken down, i am the 2nd owner i knew the first owner and apart from the occasional boost pipe and normal servicing and repairs it's been 100% reliable and it's worked for a living all it's life (and still is) and has been to most ski resorts in europe. It's now done 229000 + miles is on it's second clutch, original turbo and head gasket. Yes it has a few rust issues but for a 14yr old vehicle with a questionable build quality it ain't to bad (have seen worse).

I didn't see any pics of freelanders towing stuff in the snow we had, wonder why that was :scratching_chin:saw a couple of them being towed though :doh:

It's also one of the best tow vehicles ive ever had :D :D :D :D :D

fook me Hippo could you have gone any slower? tried to watch the vid but started to snooze halfway through :p

ok to settle the argument once and for all I think an FL should go on a decent laning day with some discos/defenders/series etc.

I will hopefully be taking my 110 (currently on 235/70 disco road tyres) out in a couple of weeks for some mild laning around north yorks area(funds permitting). just a few muddy trails and some rocky tracks and would love for someone in a gaylander to come along and show us how great they are :) if you get stuck we will pull you out but not until piccys have been taken first, same as anyone really ;)

oh and heres a great off roading freelander with AT tyres showing us how well they do :p

goes round and round, threads keep going back to fls are great others are ****e rusty unreliable, my vcu is better than your difflock etc etc :doh:

personally dont care what folk drive but should they really be compared? its like comparing a rally spec to standard car.

they both have 3/5 doors, 4 wheels etc but have completely different uses ;)

and before anyone comments im not calling any LR rally spec just trying to point out they are so different its an endless argument

Series are always sniggered at for being noisy and uncomfortable.
Discos are always ridiculed for being rust buckets.
Defenders are laughed at for being cold, uncomfortable and without any "mod-cons".
Blacks are persecuted for being "different".
Adt is bullied for being, erm, well Ady.
Freelanders will always be pointed out as the "soft option" as far as Land rovers are concerned, but they are not designed to compete with other Land rovers, they are designed to allow Landrover to compete in a niche market place that the other Land rovers cant.
Given the option of an X5, a Merc or a Volvo or a Defender, to use as a "chelsea tractor", but with 4wd for use in bad conditions, who would choose a Defender - not many?

To some up, but change your statement, it is not an endless arguement, but a pointless one.

Quite right Bobbler, it's a stupid argument

I've never had a Series or Defender but in 3O years I've had several Range Rovers and a couple of Discoverys.

Each has it's merits

The Series/Defender conquored the world, is the mutts nuts in the rough but tiresome on a motorway

The TD5 series 2 Disco was the best vehicle I have ever owned and driven
... but cost far more in maintenance and repairs than any other - though most of that - at least the expensive stuff, was covered under warranty

An old Rangie was great fun and comfortable, a new one is good if you're gonna run some Sheiks around..... and there's the Rangie Sport if you're serious about selling drugs

For road work and occassional muddy lanes the Freelander is superb in it's class - in fact in the snow on the roads for the last couple of years I have found it to be the best of the bunch.

I've gotta jump in the TD4 and get back to the hair salon - customers waiting :p

completely agree other than the defender comparison, would have stuck the RR L322 in there which is possibly the best of that bunch imo. refined, comfortable, capable although still flawed with reliability issues :eek:

defender has a pretty small comparison area, things like the merc G-wagon are similar and I know what i'd choose funds allowing

the G Wagon ;) :behindsofa:
