The exhaust system on the Freelander TD4 is totally **** imo. It's so exposed that it's unreal. Whoever engineered that must have been smoking weed while he was designing the exhaust system. If you look underneath a disco 1, you will see that the exhaust is nicely tucked up underneath, out of harms way. In contrast, the exhaust system on the Freelander TD4 looks like it was just randomly put there, without any real thought being put into it. I'm surprised it actually manages to go over speed bumps without ripping off the entire exhaust.

I made a similar thread regarding exhaust replacement due to the fact that I completely wrecked my middle section the other day. I got caught out again by an obscured tree stump in the middle of a green lane. I'm not too keen on getting a standard replacement, because I know the same problem will only end up happening again further down the line.

With the amount I've spent repairing my TD4 over the past 11 months, it would have been cheaper to buy a Disco 1 and use my Freelander for going to Tesco instead. Still, that may be too much for the Freelander to cope with...

Does anyone else find the exhaust system to be a hindrance on the Freelander? If so, what have you done to prevent damage to it?

Will take pics tomorrow. I know the trattor boys love a good old laugh.

Tiz very similar to the X-T and is used as some form of underbody protection, especially the rear one, but it can be changed for a "cherry bomb" type of silencer, but that will leave you no protection for the fuel tank.

Yesterday there was another RB (road book) I participated, as the ruts were rather deep I heard a couple of times an heavy clunk against the underbelly that I thought I drove over a branch of stone hidden in the ruts which was projected or so, but afterwards I thought that it must have been the beer barrel in the back which was pushed up when going into a deeper part and made that heavy noise when hitting the floor.
Another pain is all the grass and mud etc. which gets collected by the underside, the brakes, steering, suspension, undercarriage, everything where there is a gap or an hole it's filled with mud and sh.t, have powerwashed but it still looks more like a lawn than a car underneath.:D:D:D:D:D

I am sure my Hippo egg-sauce went across the back of the car - may be its the Altzeimers cutting in again?

It does, you just can't see the backbox in the pictures. Luckily it is intact, albeit with several dents in it.
 
got to agree the eggsauce on the td4 is ****e , bin thinking of modding mine specially as Willo sez the beer barrel on the back :D:D:D i liked that terminology Willo :) :) :)
 
v6 eggsauce is just as bad. Bump mine off road all the time. If you drive slower, you don't get so much suspension bounce, which reduces the eggsauce bumps.

i've some pics of my modded exhaust, one of the reasons for modding was ground clearance and the old exhaust popping off the right hand rubber hanger now and again. I'll see if i can find them.
 
Don't you mean FREELANDERS = **** :D IT AIN'T A PROPPER OFF ROADER :doh: when will you hair dressers realise this, it was never desighned as a propper off roader :doh:

Now im not into offroading but that second piccy is trying to prove what exactly??? Gaylanders can drive on three wheels, shirley the point of having a propper 4x4 is it will keep all its wheels on the ground, axle articulation i think it's called, please feel free to correct me if i am wrong :D :D

On our last sunday's roadbook there were two Def.'s and one RR 4l V8 and I must say these def's are brilliant in deep ruts, but it's only the ground clearance that prevents the FL's to take the same routes as the def's, the one that really impressed me was the old Range, what a beast that is.
 
some early td4 had a smaller rear silencer on as standard save hitting the back box all the time then i put jubilee clips round the exhaust rubbers tightened them up then the back box sits above the height of the rear subframe you gain about 3-4 of clearance mine is off a 52 reg td4
