I'm living out in Portugal at the moment and am selling my 2005 Freelander Commercial to a Portuguese guy. I was just checking the documents when I noticed that on the V5, against the 'number of seats' it says 5. My 'Commercial' is 100% original and I know it was built as a two seater, it has never had the rear seat conversion and the load deck and bulkhead are intact. I also noticed that it doesn't seem to mention anywhere that it's a 'Commercial' unless this is designated by the code letters used here and there on the document. When I've used online services where you enter the registration number it has been confirmed as a 'commercial'. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on the situation.

Hi Rtrak,

A tricky one.

If you were still living in the UK, youd just need to get back in touch with he DVLA and tell them theres an error on the log book (as long as you are 100% sue it left the LR factory as a freelander commercial).

They would then check with land rover using the VIN, and at very worst, ask you to go along for an inspection at your closest VRO (at no charge)

However, im guessing if you are living out in portugal, you have informed the DVLA that you have pemanantly exported the vehicle (which you need to do if its going abroad for anything more than 365 continous days) youll have the portugese equivalent of a v5?

Let me know if youve been out there longer than 12 months or not, and if you are selling it to stay in portugal with the new owner, or if the new owner is bringing it back to the UK, or if its going on to another country, and ill tell you the bes thing to do.

Fell free to PM me if you want. :D

Have you tried Land Rover to see if they have any info - I thought all the commercials were Special Vehicle builds, so there should be much lower volume separate records.
Nicola from Land Rover PR joined the forum a few weeks ago and offered to help with questions, so it might be worth trying to find her on here.
It might also be worth trying to find the previous owners - they might know if it was deliberately registered or re-registered as a passenger car despite being built as a commercial

hiya

i bought a 3 door TD4 auto commercial freelander and when i put seats in the back i had to change my V5 to 5 x seats.

Seems strange to have the 5 x seats on the V5 already, is it anything to do with the vat- export fee's etc and making it non commercial-just a thought

see if this helps you to check your vin
