I've been told that there was a problem with the gearbox in our Freelander where it made graunching noises going into first or reverse.
This issue happened while some learner drivers in the family were driving the vehicle. However, the person teaching them then tried driving and the problem continued.
But: Today I took it for a test drive and there was no crunching from the gearbox at all.
I am wondering, then, if it is possible that the gearbox got wound up due to learner drivers not depressing the clutch pedal far enough. Could this have resulted in the crunching noises which continued when an experienced driver took over?
Thanks
