Freelander Brake Pipe Flares

My 2000 Freelander TD4 has just failed the MOT on 4 corroded brake pipes. I've changed brake pipes many times before but never made my own so i thought i would have a go. I have now had a look on the net and found there are 3 types of flare, single, double or din. A bit of research on U Tube says that most European cars use the DIN type, however trying to find a reasonably priced pipe flarer that does this type of flare is not easy as the price varies so much. Does any one have any knowledge as to which type of flare is definitely required and recommendations as to tools. All comments welcome.

pipe flaring kit will put in first operation convex flare used with male fittings and with second operation put convex flare for female fittings,singkle flare aint used in brake lines din is most common metric fittings ,hand flaring tools are often poor ,vice mounted is better with sykes kit been expensive but very good but there will be cheaper kits

If you are anywhere near West Wales I have a superb bench mounted flare kit you ate welcome to use here. It does double flares beautifully.

You need to old ones off for a pattern.

Many thanks for the offer but I'm in Hove so its a bit too far. Do you know if they are DIN or SAE type flares. It appears only the more expensive kits can make the DIN flares which I suspect they are.

done mine last week on my 1.8 2002 single flare and double flare,kit i used was a sealy bought from tms probably not agreat kit but i passed mot and no leaks

My kit does double flare - it's a pro kit

How long did it take to do, I have to do all 4 pipes. Local garage wants about £350 So i will probably do it myself. You can get single and double flares in either SAE or DIN so still none the wiser as to which one to do.

you dont use single flares any auto kit you get wont have that facility only a choice of pipe sizes you need 3/16 ,1 st opperation gives you convex bubble for male fittings second operation for concave female fittings ,any std auto kit will give you right flares

Wrong week is it?

took me about six hours to do 5, 2 long ones front to rear 2 small pipes to rear wheels
1front hardest bit getting out old pipes soaked in wd 40 overnight.the kit i bought done ok and done both flares mentioned by jamesmartin ifound that each pipe had ball atone end and convex flare at other.
