Hello,

Hope someone can help me. Having just bought my first Freelander a 3dr TD4 Adventurer I am now looking for a rear mounted bike rack. Had a quick spin through ebay and done a google search only to find they retail for arounf £80. Does anyone know of any cheaper options and where to get hold of them? Or do any of you want rid of a second hand rack?

Thanks,

Rob

I'm getting rid of mine Rob. I sold my Hippo and now must sell the rack. Holds 3 bikes I think and connects to the spare wheel allowing the tailgate to open.

Open to offers :D

Got mine from Halfords - £50 if I remember correct. Just make sure your wipers are off when you sling it into reverse or "CCCrunch" - new wiper arm required.

Hi all,

I'm so bad :(

Got a bit side tracked last night Rob, sorry. Will do it as soon as I get in tonight and get them over to you.

Feel free to be nasty to me, I deserve it ;)

@ Humpth, if Rod doesn't want it then you have 2nd refusal on it.

Here's some photos of the rack. Holds 2 bikes, not 3 as I earlier stated

My friend had one of these and we nearly lost our bikes because we didn't lash it back to the car. If it connects to the tow bar you need to lash the top back to the vehicle as the insturctions say. If not the load is too much, the bottom of the vertical support shears off.
Mine grips around the spare wheel and does not lash back to the vehicle. Allowing you to open the tailgate. Something the other carrier will not allow.

Thanks I will bear that in Mind, I have used it for a couple of years with no problems.

I will lash it to the spare wheel on the next outing.

How did you get on with the car insurance

Well Tedshred, we do have rather heavy duty mountain bikes, freeride and downhill rigs. That along with country lane in my mates Toyota Hilux sheered the vertical support. Lucky we all saw the funny side :D
From that day on we lash it back just incase.

What insurance do you speak of? I have a company car now and the misses has the MG TF. Insurance for us on the MG is very good, around £450 with business use too.

To avoid probs with rear wiper arm hitting bike rack simply remove the fuse for the rear wiper then you dont have to worry about having the wipers on in reverse and as there is a bike rack in the way rearward vision is no worse without the wiper operating.
